Plufl’s Hugl Body Pillow Has Improved My Sleep Tenfold
You may be familiar with Plufl, the buzzy brand that made headlines for launching a human dog bed in early 2023, following its successful Shark Tank appearance. Now the direct-to-consumer brand is back with another ultra-comfortable (and admittedly less gimmicky) sleep-centric product, the Hugl Cooling Body Pillow. I’ve been sleeping with it for the last several weeks, and it’s no exaggeration when I say that it has improved my sleep health since day one of use.
Despite being a generally healthy and physically fit person, I still wake up with occasional aches and pains. Maybe I simply need a new mattress, maybe I sleep in an awkward position for a little too long, or maybe it is inevitable when you are forty-something; aging spares the joints, bones and muscles of absolutely no one. Over the past few years I’ve started sleeping with a pillow in between my knees to keep my hips aligned and mitigate any discomfort while I snooze. But I also tend to switch from side to side throughout the night, which means my designated leg pillow doesn’t always make the move with me.
I’ve considered investing in a body pillow for some time, but never took the plunge. So when I heard about the Plufl Hugl Cooling Body Pillow, it sounded like it had all the features I was looking for. Spoiler: I was right.
First off, the shape of this body pillow is contoured and ergonomic, versus many popular competitors that have more of a uniform tube-like or narrow rectangular design throughout. This makes sinking into it incredibly comfortable, with the bonus of also being comfortable when adjusted against my headboard into a more upright position that’s suitable for reading or watching TV.
The outer cover is made with a bamboo and polyethylene blend designed to keep you cool while you sleep; based on my experience, it comes through on that promise. September in New York City is notoriously unpredictable weather-wise, and even on those warmer evenings when I haven’t had the air conditioner running, I haven’t woken up in a sweat. The fill is a mix of microfiber and memory foam, which keeps it feeling consistently smooth from top to bottom, with what I would consider a medium-firm feel—not too soft, but supportive without feeling overly firm throughout.
And perhaps the most beneficial feature for me personally is its removable antimicrobial cover. My two large dogs sleep in the bed with me and my husband (this may also be the reason for my occasional aches and pains, as I often contort my body to accommodate them, but alas, I am not a monster). This means they also tend to enjoy the Hugl body pillow during the daytime, and it could benefit from regular washing. The cover washes well and is easy to zip back on.
The body pillow is available in two sizes, standard and large, with the latter ringing in at $50 more (though both sizes are regularly on sale) and being better suited, according to the brand, for anyone 5 foot 9 and up. As someone just under 5 foot 8, the standard seemed perfect for my height. Either size also comes in your choice of gray or white.
Ultimately, if you’ve been looking for a body pillow that can keep you cool and comfortable throughout the night, is easy to clean and can be used in various positions, you should consider investing in Plufl’s Hugl Cooling Body Pillow. Like its predecessor, the human dog bed, which we also tested firsthand, I’m confident calling this product a crowd-pleaser—and one that’s very likely to become a staple in your bedtime routine.
