The Best Steam Mops We’ve Ever Tested
Chances are, mopping isn’t your favorite household chore—and we get why. The bucket-filling, cleaning-solution-mixing, and wringing-and-rinsing process is not for the weak.
That’s where a steam mop can really come in handy. With a steam mop, your cleaning routine can be as simple as filling a reservoir, attaching it to the mop, and turning it on.
To find the best ones, we tested 77 different mops from a variety of brands in our lab and evaluated them based on their ease of use and cleaning, effectiveness, maneuverability, and value. We also considered factors like their heat-up and cool-down time, cord length, and water tank capacity.
Last but not least, we tapped Rhonda Wilson, the quality lead cleaner at FreshSpace Cleaning, to get her professional opinion on what matters most when purchasing a steam mop so you can dread your next floor-mopping day a little less.

The mop head got stuck on a few stickier stains and flipped up.
The PurSteam 10-in-1 Steam Cleaner is our overall best steam mop thanks to its stain-removing power, ease of use, helpful features, and great price. In our testing, the PurSteam removed all kinds of stains—chocolate milk, hot sauce, and syrup, just to name a few—in 10 passes or fewer. (We should note, though, that the mop head would occasionally get stuck and flip up when dealing with sticky stains.)
It was easy to fill up and get going, and the mop only took 17 seconds to fully heat up. When the mop ran out of water, the tank flashed and vibrated—something we found especially helpful. We also appreciated a hook for the cord and a simple-to-remove mop pad. The steam mop includes eight different attachments, like a steamer jet, squeegee, and bath brush, for cleaning all types of surfaces, including stubbornly stained grout.
Six months of testing later, we still haven’t noticed any changes in the functioning of the mop—it works the same as when we first opened the box. It’s also easy to move around in awkward or tight spaces, and it’s fairly light, too—the entire unit, with a full water tank, weighed just 5 pounds and 11 ounces.
