The Best Robot Vacuums for Pet Hair We’ve Ever Tested

Dealing with pet hair is a never-ending battle that only dog and cat owners can understand. When shedding season hits, a robot vacuum might be your best hope to keep your floors fur-free.

To find the best robot vacuums for pet hair, we tested multiple models over six months in real homes with pets. We evaluated each vacuum’s ease of setup, effectiveness, features, how loud it was, its maneuverability, and value for what it costs.

We also talked to Carolina Kazimierski, co-owner and President of Sophia’s Cleaning Service, and Jason Farrell, certified master technician at Mechanic’s Diary, on what to look for in a robot vacuum that’ll be used in a house with pets.

Our goal is to help you keep your floors clean and make your life easier, so you can spend more time enjoying your pets and less time cleaning up after them.

What Stands Out

  • Its adaptive suction power and precise cleaning maps make it perfect for getting rid of pet hair.

What Could Be Improved

  • It lacks object avoidance, which can interrupt its cleaning when it runs into small items.

During our tests in a home with a cat, we were amazed by how much hair and dirt this robot vacuum picked up from floors and carpets that we thought were clean. Even with regular professional cleanings and weekly stick vacuuming, the Dyson 360 Vis Nav found debris we didn’t know was there.

Setting up this Dyson is simple enough for anyone to do. The MyDyson app is user-friendly, even if you’re not good with technology. It walks you through the connection process and helps map out different areas of your home.

We found it’s best to be nearby when running the vacuum early on, as it can get stuck in hard-to-reach places or accidentally pick up small objects. Overall, it maneuvered well and used its 360 degree vision navigation and 26 sensors to navigate around obstacles and clean every corner. You can also set up no-go zones to keep it away from specific areas or make adjustments with your phone from afar.

One feature we loved is its adaptive suction power. When the vacuum detects more dirt, it ramps up its power to get a deeper clean. We even tested it with rice to simulate large particles of dirt, and it picked up everything effortlessly. The 11.8-inch brush bar is designed to minimize hair tangling, which is a huge plus for pet owners. However, it can struggle with small obstacles like cat toys since it lacks object avoidance technology.

Emptying this robot vacuum is incredibly easy and hygienic. The dustbin has a large capacity (the second largest on our list) and can hold a surprising amount of dirt and hair. While it doesn’t empty itself, it’s so simple to do: Just press a button, and the dirt falls right into the garbage without any need to touch the contents. We appreciated this after seeing how much pet hair and debris it collected. Beyond the visible mess, the HEPA filtration system traps 99.99% of particles as small as 0.1 microns—including pet dander and allergens.

Despite its higher price, we believe the Dyson 360 Vis Nav is worth the investment. Compared to other models we've tested, the Dyson’s navigation is impressive and its cleaning power handles pet hair and dirt exceptionally well. While it occasionally gets stuck on small items, its overall performance and features make it a great choice for pet owners.
