The Best Linen Sheets We’ve Ever Tested

If you’re a fan of linen clothing, you probably know by now that linen is a crisp, cool, and breathable material suitable for year-round use. The same rings true for linen sheets, which are naturally hypoallergenic and help regulate body temperature when sleeping. While linen sheets may be slightly more expensive than their cotton counterparts, they come bearing many benefits that may make the higher price tag worth it, like anti-static and antibacterial properties. Linen is also long-lasting and durable, and is an excellent bedding choice for those with allergies or sensitive skin.

To find the best linen sheets, we tested bedding both in our lab and at home to determine which sheets were the most durable, breathable, high-quality, and offered the best value. We also gathered expert insight from Brian Delp, adjunct fashion instructor and president of sales and global licensing at home textiles manufacturer Himatsingka Group, and Jay Caar, founder of textile merchandiser Yorkshire Fabric Shop, on how to shop and care for linen sheets.

What Stands Out

  • Stains were easy to remove and the bedding washes well.

What Could Be Improved

  • These sheets have a tighter fit that may not fit deep mattresses.

Parachute Linen Sheet Set is made with Portuguese (or European) flax, a type of linen that’s widely regarded as some of the softest and most durable on the market. While linen fabric is notorious for requiring a few washes to fully soften up, these sheets were soft out of the box and the texture remained mostly unchanged pre- and post-wash. Parachute Linen Sheets may be a luxury buy, but we found washing stains out of these sheets was a breeze—so buyers can rest assured that their sheets will look (and feel) high-quality for many years to come, even if accidents occur.

Still, if you have a deep mattress (or a mattress 12 inches or taller), you might find these sheets on the tighter side. While the sheet sets aren’t necessarily small, we struggled to get the long sides tucked underneath the mattress. Those with taller beds may want to seek out a linen sheet set with deep pockets instead, especially if you toss and turn at night. But if you have a suitable mattress that can fit these sheets comfortably, you’ll likely enjoy these sheets as much as we did.
