The only thing our testers are divided on is temperature regulation. While most of us slept cool, one tester occasionally woke up with a sweaty neck. The Marlow Pillow from Brooklinen takes a different approach than most of its competitors. Unzipping both ends makes it taller and plusher, and leaving one zipper open creates a medium loft and height. While it isn’t as precise as a traditional adjustable-fill pillow, it’s much simpler to adjust mid-sleep.

Inside the Marlow Pillow is a blend of shredded gel memory foam and polyester fibers, but it does require frequent fluffing to shape it, especially when you first open it (since you can’t manually manipulate the fill, this requires some patience). The zippers reveal mesh gussets, which along with the 100% cotton cover, help the pillow breathe. That being said, you can’t pop this pillow or its cover in the washing machine or dryer; it’s spot-clean only.

If you’re willing to make some concessions in maintenance and fine-tuning, the Marlow Pillow is a fantastic value at just under $50. Most impressive is the 365-night trial, which is rare for a pillow at any price point.

The polyester-rayon blend cover is soft, breathable and machine-washable, although Layla recommends hand-washing for best results. Like many adjustable pillows with shredded fill, regular fluffing is required to help it maintain its shape. The only major downside here is the relatively short 30-night trial period, a reduction from the 100 nights Layla previously offered. However, the five-year warranty is among the most generous we’ve seen for a pillow.
