Miracle Bamboo Pillow Review: Adjustable And Surprisingly Cooling
Like many informed consumers, I have a strict no-infomercials policy. But sleeping on the “As Seen on TV” Ontel Miracle Bamboo Pillow for 30 nights made me rethink my stance. As a self-described hot sleeper who frequently wakes up in a pool of sweat, I’m wary of all “cooling technology.” Bedding, pillows and mattresses I’ve tested with this label prove to be nothing more than a marketing gimmick, so I expected a so-called “miracle” pillow to be the same. But the combination of bamboo material and shredded memory foam delivers a serious one-two punch in the fight against night sweats.
My first week was a lesson in adjustability. But once I found my sweet spot, I felt more rested and less drenched—so much so that I’ve finally said goodbye to my old memory foam pillow and permanently switched to this bamboo wonder. Check out my full Miracle Bamboo Pillow review to understand how this pillow works and whether it might be a good fit for you.
Miracle Bamboo Pillow Features
Adjustable Fill For A Personalized Loft Height
If you’re like me and are constantly playing Goldilocks with your pillows—one is too firm, yet another is too soft—the Miracle Bamboo Pillow has the greatest potential to feel just right. Why? Because you can make it so. Unlike most memory foam pillows, which have a set loft height, this one allows you to remove or add shredded foam as you please.
This not only caters to different sleeping positions, but accommodates changes in preferences or body weight over time as well. While it’s a bit messy to remove the foam, the customization is well worth it if you feel like you’re on a never-ending quest to find the perfect pillow.
I’m a combination sleeper who usually ends up on my side, but I found this pillow far too firm in this position. It worked well when I was lying on my back, reading a book in bed, but when it came to rolling over to sleep, it just wasn’t comfortable. It was so firm, in fact, it pushed against my jaw and caused discomfort, but once I removed some filling to make it a bit less full, the side of my face and head could comfortably sink in. Plus, the pillow was responsive enough to help propel me from side to side without much effort.
Shredded Memory Foam Doesn’t Trap Heat
The Miracle Bamboo Pillow from Ontel has a cooling construction. It doesn’t actively lower your body temperature while you snooze—which is next to impossible for a pillow—but it doesn’t make you any hotter, either.
Memory foam tends to trap heat, which is why it’s not a popular material among hot sleepers. Shredding the foam into small pieces allows for more airflow and evaporation, giving this pillow the breathability the solid foam lacks. I typically give a pillow a few good flips to cool down throughout the night. But with this one, I didn’t resort to that tactic once.
Surprisingly Soft And Smooth
Bamboo may not sound like the comfiest material to sleep on, but when turned into viscose fabric, its texture is surprisingly soft and smooth. The Miracle Bamboo Pillow’s cover material is made from 60% polyester and 40% viscose from bamboo. The resulting fiber not only feels great, it’s also highly breathable and has moisture-wicking properties—a win for sweaty sleepers in particular.
My Expertise
As a freelance sleep writer, I’ve tested hundreds of over-hyped, under-hyped and appropriately-hyped products for Forbes Vetted, Shape, VeryWellHealth, VeryWellFit, Insider Reviews, GQ and more. But my most important credential is not something I’d willingly put on my resume. For most of my adult life, my body temperature has been the barrier to a good night’s rest.
I’ve tried all the hacks, tips and gadgets in the book to cool down. Some of them help. Some of them don’t. While I don’t believe in miracle cures (or miracle pillows, for that matter), I do believe that certain materials and construction methods can make a significant difference in sleep quality for those of us who run warm. The Ontel Miracle Bamboo Pillow has them both.
Final Thoughts
I tested the Miracle Bamboo Pillow from Ontel for 30 nights to see if it lived up to its “As Seen on TV” claims. While I wouldn’t call it a miracle, this pillow did deliver on its promise to keep sweaty sleepers more comfortable throughout the night. It wasn’t able to miraculously lower my body temperature, but its use of breathable materials and airflow-enhancing design did make my nights more comfortable.
I will note that it took some trial and error to find the right level of firmness and loft, and I think that people who are used to sleeping on solid memory foam pillows may find even the firmest option too soft. But seeing as our sleep preferences are as unique as our fingerprints, the ability to customize this pillow is a huge selling point.
At the time of this writing, I haven’t found a magical material that makes me feel significantly cooler while I sleep, so until someone invents a way to make ice blocks more comfortable, the Miracle Bamboo Pillow has a place on my bed.
