The Best Electric Blankets We’ve Ever Tested
With a pumpkin spice latte in one hand and a Kindle in the other, fall is the perfect time to up your cozy routine. If you’re seeking something a bit warmer than a decorative throw blanket, consider an electric option. Whether starting your next Netflix binge or diving into a new book, heated blankets provide an extra layer of warmth and comfort in the colder months.
To compile a list of the best electric blankets on the market, we tested 27 popular options over six months in our Des Moines lab and at home, evaluating them on quality, feel, heat, durability, and more. We also tapped Brianne Deerwester, communications coordinator for the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI), for safety tips.

This heated blanket stood out for its luxurious warmth, cozy weight, and soft texture, earning it the spot as our overall best electric blanket. We would compare the experience of lying with this blanket to sleeping on a cloud—while testing it in our lab, we had to stop ourselves from actually falling asleep.
This blanket offers the best of both worlds, with reversible quilted and faux-shearling sides. It has 10 heat settings to choose from, making it suitable for year-round use, along with a programmable timer and memory function to keep track of your last setting. It heated up quickly on both the low and high settings, and there are two controls, so you and your partner can adjust each half to your perfect temperatures. Our only complaint involves the cord, which was a bit short.
While we didn’t find this blanket overly warm on the hottest setting—it only reached 82°F in 15 minutes—the cozy faux shearling made up for it. After six months of use, it’s still working perfectly. Plus, it’s available in four sizes and 12 colors, making it a great addition to any chair, sofa, or bed.
